Catholic Education is the means of forming and developing the individual physically, intellectually, morally and spiritually to enable him attain and maintain a harmonious, responsible and active life in the society he belongs according to the teachings of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
A brief historical background
Education is basically as old as life and has in time developed to take its place as a critical plan in human development. A tracking of development of education in Nigeria shows that even before Western education, Nigerians were educated through association or apprenticeship in a system that in some sense has persisted today, known as traditional education.
The Catholic Church has taken education very seriously seeing it as a way to further the injunction of Christ-“Go ye forth and teach all nations”. In this injunction, the Church sees its role as divinely ordained and consequently is absolutely convinced that the educational aims of the Catholic School in the world of today perform an essential and unique service for the Church herself.
